8 proven techniques to deal with procrastination that actually worked

Procrastination doesn’t only meant to put your to do work on tomorrow but in more specific words it means avoiding doing the most important task of the day instead performing the least important task for pleasure.

procastination

Almost everyone procrastinate at some point of life. Research shows that 95% of people procrastinate. It can also be termed as the most common bad habit to have. But the disadvantages of procrastinate are not hidden from anyone. Fortunately it is possible to remove procrastination habit from your bad habit list by introducing a few changes in your thought process. In this article we are going to discuss the most effective solution to remove this procrastination habit from your life which is a hindrance in and a reason for your most important work to be undone yet.

WHY PROCRATINATION?

You may think that this is just a habit which gets built with time but you will be shocked to know that there is a psychological reason behind procrastination. Because this is not a unwillingness to do work but avoid any specific work and continue with the rest. In procrastination you often refuse or avoid to perform a work which is slightly boring, frustrating but is also probably the most important task of the day.

Sometimes the reason may be fear of failure, or you may think you don’t have required skills to perform the task and people won’t approve and appreciate your work and you choose to perform the task which is pleasurable, you have done that before and there is no fear of failure.

Below are mentioned tips to overcome procrastination-

1. ACCEPT PROCRASTINATION-

In order to remove a bad habit you must accept that you have it. You will be surprised to know that people often procrastinate but they don’t even know that they are doing it. So , overcoming  is  far away. So if you are avoiding the most important task of the day and doing the rest then you are certainly procrastinating. Don’t debate or give an excuse that because of some valid reason you are not able to perform that but honestly accept that you are avoiding doing that because of some reason.

2. ANALIISE OUTCOME-

The moment when you have bravely accepted that you are procrastinating just make a list of outcomes or problems you will have to face if you do not perform that task in your mind or you can also note them down. I often procrastinated performing my morning exercise when I just began doing it but when I thought of the outcomes I got inner motivation to do exercise on regular basis.

3. THINK ABOUT END GOAL-

Once you are done with the bad outcome analysis of procrastinating, you must through light on the positive aspect of performing the task without further delay. Example- If I study two concepts of physics on daily basis I may top the class this time. Note down the benefits you will get by doing that task just beside the negative outcomes of not doing that.Through a look at them when you feel like procrastinating.

4. BE EASY WITH YOURSELF-

Don’t be too harsh with yourself. Avoid using this words to yourself that “I am too lazy, nothing could happen of mine, I’m like this only, procrastination is my habit and I can’t change that”. Instead be a little easy with yourself. Forgive yourself for the procrastination you have done till date and say yourself “I am a hard worker, I can do anything I wish, from now I will perform my task on time”. One more thing instead of thinking that someone want you to do that task or you are working on another person orders think that you choose to do it by yourself. You are interested in doing that work and willingly performing it.

5. DO THE TASK JUST AFTER GETTING UP-

Make a to-do list for yourself and arrange them in the order to priority. Remember that you should try to complete the most important or highly priority work just after getting up from bad. In morning our energies and activeness is high, so the work can be done without getting stressed. But then again everyone have their own specific timing throughout the day when they can work effectively. So you have to analyze is by yourself and choose to do in accordance.

6. AVOID DISTRACTIONS-

When I say about distraction I am not only talking about social media distractions but others as well. Example when I decide to write a blog I request my family members not to interrupt me until the time my work is complete. To avoid mobile distraction you either switch it off not to get bothered by the notifications or put your smart phone in the other room away from your sight.

7. TREAT YOURSELF-

Decide a treat for yourself. Like once your work is complete you will eat something or have a cup of coffee or check your social media accounts. This will make your act of completing the task interested and exciting. You will be motivated to complete it as soon as possible.

8. HUMAN DOES MAKE MISTAKES-

You must remember that nobody has got skills from birth as god gift. Everyone learns and improves while performing. If you are doing something you will make mistakes and many a times you will have to encounter failure as well. Those who are not even trying neither have chance of winning nor losing. And trust me you are much better than them. Start doing the work with imperfection, have a learn and grow mindset, if someone catches your mistakes and shows to you correct that, this is going to lead you towards perfection.
